It gives me great pleasure to be with all of you and we are very much honored to have your presence here at the Hayashibara International Art Festival "Rising Stars" My Mona Lisa exhibition.

The Hayashibara International Arts Festival "Rising Stars" was first organized by the Hayashibara Foundation in 2003. The exhibitions and the multifarious activities are to promote support to artists with disability, understanding between persons with and without disabilities as well as mutual respect and understanding.

"Rising Stars" has been one of its most important annual activities which started with the first exhibition "At the Creation:The origin of Mizunoki art" and then "The International art exhibition seen through the senses" at Hayashibara Museum of Art. They were followed by "Drawing Calligraphy" and "Human Portraits" which were showm in Milan, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Japan. Moreover, I would like to express my gratitude to Sino Group "Art in Hong Kong" and Centre for Community Cultural Development(CCCD) for their participation that made "Drawing Calligraphy" and "Human Portraits" such successful exhibitions.

This year 2008, we are delighted to know one of the galleries, the "Cavin-Morris Gallery" in New York, has decided to choose some of the works from our Japanese artists with disability exhibition and promote them in the United States. It is gratifying to be able to share the achievements of the artists.

Through their works and their use of color, the artists express their heart and soul, their passion for life and manifest a freedom that has overcome any restrictions. Their works touch us and bring us hope. "Rising Stars" aims at connecting the people of the world in a spirit of inclusion.

In closing, I would like to say thank you to all of the artists from Hong Kong, South Korea, China , Singapore and Japan who have created such wonderful works for the "My Mona Lisa" exhibition. We are also very grateful to our partners including the various agencies, the tutors and teachers, the museums and the galleries which have made this exhibition possible. Thank you very much.

My Mona Lisa

My Mona Lisa
In 1919,the French artist: Marcel Duchamp formulated his thoughts on the principles of art and he boldly drew a moustache on a replica of the painting of Mona Lisa and this created a great furore and sensation followed by a heated debate between artists.

We found that artists with disabilities in Japan are inspired to unleash powerful expressions when they view and draw famous pictures in the world such as Mona Lisa. We aim to promote more participation in the arts by persons with disabilities not only in Japan but also overseas. This has been achieved by encouraging them to create works of their great imagination by drawing their Mona Lisas.

I am deeply thankful to the arts and disability groups from Hong Kong, China, Korea, Singapore and Japan for their participation in this art event.

Finally, I earnestly hope that this exhibition will warm our hearts and our friendship will be strengthened through the artworks of My Mona Lisa.
